Shut up about this girl, already.
I’m out of town for a few days. I’m not going far, and there’s not a lot of shows Monday-Wednesday anyway (Shy/Vampire Vtubers on Monday, Deer on Wednesday), but things may be a bit delayed.
Impressions:
I couldn’t help but think through this episode that playing up the harem angle would be a rare case of helping things. Not so much for the eyecandy as it would give at least some scenes and situations that aren’t Will pathetically mewling for his nonsensical girlfriend and some awareness of characters and possibly even a life beyond prostrating himself for her. And despite it dripping little tidbits for why the grand poobahs are special and have some important, definitely not made up Yorha mission, it’s not getting any more sensical. They’re isolated from everybody so he has to become one to see her again… except each other, and their employees, and during the special magic tournaments, and when they’re randomly wandering around dungeons. Kind of sounds like you could be aiming for janitor or personal bodyguard here. Not to mention that for all the classist antagonists, over in grand poobah court, at least 40%, 50% if you count the spy girl, are already on Team Will, as well as literally everybody except the two pissy dudes throwing tantrums about their personal supremacy.
But anyway, back into the dungeon to fight a random monster with a girl of the week who’s actually a spy sent to Test Will’s Worth, as if we haven’t seen that every episode so far. Isn’t it time for an actual arc here? I couldn’t even follow why he needed to wrap up the monster with wire before detonating the bomb. Bombs are generally fairly agnostic to their fuse configuration. Some hand-wavey magic reason that they forgot to cover no doubt. But the real reason was “to look cool.” I guess at least it gave the animators something to do, even if it was as lacking in tension as all the action in this show have been so far. Really squandering being an action show with a budget here.
