Trinity CineAsia, a distributor that specializes in bringing Chinese and Asian films to the UK market, have recently announced that they will be releasing the feature-length anime film Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram into cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 27th September 2024.
Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram is the latest feature-length entry into the Detective Conan, otherwise known as Case Closed, franchise and was this years highest grossing film in Japan, with 6 consecutive weeks at No.1 and over 10.8 million tickets sold. The film also features a standalone story, of which sees Detective Conan and Kid the Phantom Thief attempting to unravel the truth behind a mysterious artefact.
Synopsis: Shinichi Kudo was a brilliant high school detective until one day he was turned into a child by the mysterious Black Organization. Taking on a new identity as Conan Edogawa to protect those close to him, Conan now pursues the Black Organization in hopes of finding the cure to bring him back to his teenage self.
When a calling card belonging to the legendary Kid the Phantom Thief is found in a warehouse belonging to an illustrious family in Hokkaido, Conan’s interest is piqued: why has a great thief well-known for his pursuit of precious gems set his eyes on swords dating back to the great Edo period? Meanwhile, the discovery of a body with a cross slashed across its chest leads to the “Merchant of Death”, an arms dealer who has his eyes set on an even greater treasure. With Conan and his fellow detective Heiji Hattori both hot on his trail, the exciting battle for treasure begins!
The announcement of a cinematic release for Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram comes as a welcome surprise, as while the franchise is notable in Japan (and North America) it hasn’t had much exposure in the UK (although the Zero’s Tea Time series is available on Netflix UK).
Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram will be shown in cinemas across the UK in Japanese with English (and Chinese subtitles) on 27th September 2024. Screening and ticket availability have yet to be confirmed, but further details about the film can be found on the official website.
