Amagami Matchmaking #01 — Grope Fall

Fanservice used to mean something.

Impressions:

Let’s see… You’ve got the large airhead. The medium tsundere. And the small horny one. Your standard distribution of archetypes. In isolation, these are so much worse than when you couldn’t swing a dead cat in a season without hitting 4-5 harems where a dude moves in with a bunch of horny teenage girls. It’s like when one of the cheat power RPG world shows these days goes light on the monologuing and status sheets and just concentrates on the action or characters. There’s been such an onslaught of the worst of the cliches that something that does a few things slightly better seems that much more tolerable.

But this sitting here as the only one of its ilk? All the old cliches and slip-and-grope or rage screaming PERVERT are not cliches that have been missed, and there’s nothing here but those old slightly warmed over cliches. Well, eventually, about 15 minutes into the episode, it finally gets to some character stuff. A bird flies off with her special string. She wants to pray for it. He calls her an idiot. Then he prays for it, so everybody is friends now. Until the next slip and grope. Not very earned nor… well, much of anything. They were both dumb, and then for no reason, decided to… not be. With a whole four minutes for this ‘arc’, it’s hard to not be half-assed.
