Talky Boy #04 — Poor Plans

What’s wrong with this dude’s proportions?

Impressions:

As we return to the revenge porn BS, I’m really tempted to give up on this one too. I really like the knight-errant/ronin kind of stories where the hero rolls into town to address the local catastrophe, but oh no, there’s something more behind the scene. For some of them, it even ends up invariably ruining everybody’s life and leaving the village burning as the hero wanders off to ‘save’ the next town. It was practically a hallmark of things like Garo and Dororo. And this could’ve easily been like those had they allowed the dude get a little further with his evil plan and then he ended up hoisted by his own petard while they left town.

But therein lies the very important difference. Here, the focus isn’t on the plot or schemes within schemes. It’s all laid out at once out of literally nowhere, with some especially spurious reasoning. This is once again all about the fetishization of personally torturing people out of vengeance and how actually heroic that is because they deserve it. And like all these things, they make sure the subject is an absurd cariacature of pure sniveling evil. Psychopaths are always going to find a justification to act like dicks, and I incredibly dislike stories glorifying that. This is also not helped by following it up with the continuation of Alma’s backstory, which made zero sense whatsoever. Give me my life back! Okay, go do whatever you want, just not here. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I would say that I feel like I missed something, but I doubt it. Just like everything else in this show, it makes no sense.
