Mechanical Arm #06 — Deworming

Maybe Aki can win a fight at some point.

If you’re curious about the Talky Boy thing, it went even harder into torturing and slaving, so… yeah. I’m out. I’ll figure out something to post the rest of the season on Saturdays and Tuesdays, though like many of the US, am currently in a bit of a fugue state. Thank christ I’m in a deep blue state in a deep blue government with only a minor infestation of Nazis ~20 miles away constantly setting the city on fire.

Impressions:

Aaand we’re right back to Hikaru wandering away from the fight, then changing his mind and effortlessly saving the day. I guess in this case, he just stood there as Aki wandered away, so it’s slightly different, but that just undermined the cliffhanger from last week. We need to fight! Wait, let’s talk it out. Oh, okay. I need your help. Okay, I’ll give it. What? You will? Screw you. I’m leaving. This wasn’t a script that made any real sense, and just ended the same place that it always does, with Hikaru having wandered away from events just to come back and save Aki while one-shotting the monster of the week, who slinks off to become the next sidekick/future antagonist.

I really wish that this arc had been at least Aki, if not… I actually have no idea what the green dude’s name is because nobody ever talks to him… his chance to shine too, but everybody seems to be stuck being Hikaru’s cheerleader, and Aki in particular has to be the eternal damsel in distress who jobs to every monster of the week. At least it was still fairly animated, even if the script needed to be passed through the editing process at least one more time. If the protagonist is never going to be actually growing or changing, at least let the sidekicks have their moment. Alas.
