Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii Review — B

Girl dates a nutjob.

The thing I like the most about this show is how crazy it is. It’s basically shoujo romance meets its logical conclusion: normal girl dates someone she definitely shouldn’t and the audience has the expectation that he’ll grow and mature and they’ll be happy together. But then what makes this show so great is how it subverts this in multiple key ways: he’s probably not going to change (real peace of trash), the girl knows it too, she’s kind of nuts herself, plus casual extreme violence in all directions.

Looks great, and it’s certainly not boring. Only reason I didn’t rate it hire is because, personally, I can’t say I really enjoy it. It’s an extremely uncomfortable show to watch. Which is also what makes it good and I recognize that, so let me just say I have mixed feelings.

Storytelling – B – Great at conveying the characters’ relationships and emotions.
Voice – B – Cool art style, treads some ground most shows are afraid to.
Characters – B – Strong characterizations.
Attention Grab – B – Kept my interest.
Production – B – Well made.
Overall – X

Recommendations – Don’t date someone like this in real life
