I Learned Magic #01 — Charts and Graphs

Now that’s the good stuff.

Impressions:

I like how he goes right from learning a basic little fire cantrip to creating sentient magical creatures to start an instant ramen business and by the end of it, has created a magical clone of himself to go live a fake life. And everybody’s just like… yeah, this all seems pretty normal. Magic is nothing all that special or noteworthy that he can do, except it’s also capable of doing literally anything at zero cost with zero effort. Which he uses to advertise instant ramen. Why is this western medieval village even making ramen in the first place?

The writing here might be a bit godawfu. And yet, as the thumbnails above might indicate, there is so, so much of the screentime dedicated to trying to explain the physics and mechanics behind its magic. None of this garbage makes sense. If you want to roll with it, then roll with it. Don’t try to justify it. But I don’t think even that band-aid would fix all the other problems of there not being any kind of plot whatsoever. He’s just… kind of bored. And discovers he has a cheat power though it tries to play it off as not being THAT special of one while he casually bends all of reality to his whim. To make instant ramen.
