Maybe if we berate you enough, that’ll change your mind.
Impressions:
And we finish Monday with another teenager supposed rom com, which is actually mostly just a girl throwing a nonstop temper tantrum. I’m not seeing the draw. I had enough of this exact obnoxious character in Dandadan, thanks. Perhaps it’s slightly better than the other yelly rom com just because I too would react to someone constantly screaming in my face that they want attention by telling them to please be quiet and go away, but we ruin even that by the end by having him start yelling about it too. If it wants to do the whole Clueless/Emma thing, then she really needs to not be such a horrible stuck-up ass. She doesn’t even want to “do good.” She wants to be a selfish brat, and having literally the entire class scream at him that he NEEDS to be idolizing her is not the convincing argument for what a wonderful person she is that the show thinks it is. This isn’t even how popular cliques act, let alone humans. It’s contrived and weird.
Yeah, it’s a stupid rom com, it’s not meant to be a portrait of realism. I understand that. But the gimmick is all that it has. Its jokes are “HOW DARE HE NOT IDOLIZE ME/HER!” Its setups are “Hey, look! Panties! Boobs!” Yelling and fanservice. I had enough of that back when every third show was Kugimiya Rie screaming IDIOT, and those at least tried to give one or the other character some kind of redeeming quality to mellow them out a little bit, or more often, just stack the cast with more girls so any one doesn’t become too overwhelmingly obnoxious and turn the entire episode into a dull buzz of the same voice actress yelling nonstop. And if I remember correctly, this is supposed to be the good part of the manga source before it gets too fanservicey.
