Twilight Hotel #10 — We’re Helpless to Help

Have ya considered rope?

Impressions:

Big plot episode, though I can’t really say that anything all that surprising was revealed. Osoto, as expected, murdered literally everybody, but mostly just random killings for absolutely no reason, and one because he wanted to become Atori. And then the entire rest of the episode is spent faffing around. Not warning Atori or the others that the dude’s a deranged stalker who has already killed them once before. Not putting together the various times he rules-lawyered his way around the no-murders rule to un-alive people already. Just concluding that he must be up to something and by gum, we’re gonna wonder about that for a while longer yet.

To me, it’s another case where they’re trying painfully to show these characters being intelligent while they overlook the most painfully obvious things. And if you didn’t get that this was a detective story, with two characters as their rivals, don’t worry, because it explains that explicitly too. Atori never saw fit to mention that he was friends with Osoto’s parents. There’s a rule against killing, so the only thing we can do is allow serial killers to run free in our midst to do whatever they want. Why are we even keeping any of this a secret? Neko’s been happy to blurt out anything and everything up to this point.
