Blessed by the Gorilla God #01 — Gorilla Physics

I don’t think they actually know what gorillas are.

Impressions:

It’s the closest thing to an actual comedy of the three Sunday shows calling themeselves one, but that’s a very low bar to clear. That’s not even taking the exceptionally weird premise into account. Everybody gets a blessing from a random animal god in a public card drawing scenario… which they then keep secret from everybody, except that the results are also required to be reported and certain ones force you into certain jobs because they give powers on the level of demigods. You know, like the gorilla power of super speed. Invulnerability. And accelerated healing. You know, things people associate with gorillas. But okay, it’s slapstick stupidity. It shouldn’t be analyzed that much. …So why is it making an elephant sound when she uses her gorilla strength?

It takes half the episode, but eventually, the parade of pretty boys with extremely triangular chins do arrive, complete with the obligatory flower barrages and pastel backgrounds for her to make silly reaction faces over in between swooning. But not a real introduction to them. After all, we’re still doing tests so she can comically show off her magical gorilla abilities for laughs. Supposedly, at least. And I’m very certain that mindless boy-harem is the direction it will continue to be drifting in. Same wallflower protagonist as ever. Same array of dangerously chinned pretty boys. Even that she has some flavor of cheat power isn’t unusual. It’s harmless, which is a grace considering Maebashi Witches, but there’s nothing notable or eyecatching about this episode.
