A vaccine with 100% adoption? Now that’s fantasy.
Impressions:
The animation is certainly spectacular, there’s no denying that. Can’t say that I love the constant CGI drifting that it does, and I think some of the lines of action got muddled where going for more of a one-shot approach would’ve made it a lot clearer and easier to appreciate things, but if I’m even tempted to start talking about that stuff, that puts it a zillion tiers over the baseline. The whole episode is just animators flexing.
I’m less positive on the writing or story. It’s pretty corny and hard to take seriously on almost any level. Some scientist, beloved by the entire world, invented a wonder vaccine that cures everything and had 100% adoption. But actually, it’s going to kill everybody unless someone can track him down because he’s a doomsday cultist. So spec ops instantly runs to the foremost nonviolent parkour bandit for help. That last part is somehow the most believable piece of the entire setup. There’s not actually much more to say about either characters or story, since the animation is the forefront here and very little time or effort is spent on developing either. Which is completely fine, mind you. The animation is an acceptable hook to be able to glide past the weaker parts… for now. I would absolutely expect to see them actually developed, because the budget definitely can’t last forever.
