#Compass 2.0 #01 — Obligatory Idols

Obligatory everything, honestly.

Impressions:

At least it was relatively well animated for an action show, but it was completely incomprehensible. Well, relatively. You could cut a few clips out and be impressed at least. I imagine that fans of the game probably have at least some idea who all these characters are and what’s going on, but as someone who only really looked as far as to see it was a PVP 3-man capture the flag gacha thing, I certainly did not. An exacerbating factor was definitely so much of the exposition being delivered through that high pitched robot which was like knives in the ears. Stop talking. Forever. Please.

It wasn’t like Lazarus where the size of the suspensions of disbelief beggered belief, but simply that it barraged you with so many characters, and so much that makes no real sense. All of a sudden, the edgelord has a little Jiminy Cricket on his shoulder and it’s all “This is helping somehow and now you’re stuck together.” Okay… uh… why? For what reason? What does the little IRL buddy do to help in any way? We’re all playing a friendly game of arena violence, but all of a sudden, interdimensional blobs are attacking, which is both a regular affair and an all-hands on deck emergency, but not enough to stop the idol concert so we can suffer through bubblegum pop for the entire thing. I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt in assuming this barrage is all things fans will appreciate, but it all seems too scattershot for even that.
