Naofumi’s adventure in another world continues in The Rising of the Shield Hero – Season 3, and courtesy of Crunchyroll (UK), we can explore what the Limited Edition Blu-Ray & DVD Combo Pack release of the series has to offer in our latest unboxing. As a reminder The Rising of the Shield Hero – Season 3 will be available in the UK on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Limited Edition Blu-Ray & DVD on 12th May 2025.
First of all, The Rising of the Shield Hero – Season 3 features all 12 episodes (in English & Japanese with English subtitles) across 2 Blu-Ray discs and 2 DVD discs.
Synopsis: The other heroes have vanished since taking on the Spirit Tortoise, and Naofumi races to reunite them before the next Guardian Beast awakens. But a corrupt colosseum tournament, a demon Emperor Dragon, and Princess Malty’s manipulation stand in his way.

As you can see the Blu-Ray set inside this Limited Edition features different artwork to that of the standard edition, as the cover on the carded sleeve uses a different key visual from the series. Instead the artwork that can be seen on the cover of the standard edition is used on the art box, as this was realistically the main visual of the series. As such, this Limited Edition offers more artwork compared to that of the standard release. With the carded sleeve removed there is additional artwork to look at, both on the cover of the inlay sleeve and on the inside of the inlay sleeve. The disc artwork meanwhile is consistent with previous seasons of the series, with the different format discs having a different character visual on them.
Going beyond the anime:
Crunchyroll continues its trend of “going beyond the anime” to deliver an art book that features a combination of both art work and cast interviews. The (art) book contains visuals for characters, monsters, weapons and environments from the series, with some even having additional details about them. The cast interviews meanwhile, which can be found in the later half of the book, provide us with “Questions and Answers” segments with staff that worked on the series, such as the Japanese voice actors. It is a rather comprehensive book, and offers a nice balance between visuals and information.
Of course there is more to explore in this Limited Edition then just the (art) book, as inside you’ll also find a cloth poster and six art cards. Both the cloth poster and art cards come sealed, with the art cards wrapped in the same plastic packaging you’d find some Blu-Ray sets in (which can be difficult to open), while the cloth poster is in an easy to open (and reseal) packaging.
The art work on these items however might divide fans, as the art work on the cloth poster is of a different style to that of the anime series. It still looks great, but it looks like something that the manga artist (or light novel artist) produced rather than the animation team, but sadly I couldn’t find any information within the set itself.
That’s not all, as half of the artwork on the art cards feature stained-glass window art of characters which (while unique) are different to what you’d expect to see. The other half of the art cards meanwhile utilize the same art work that you would expect to see from the series. I don’t mind the art work being used (on either the cloth poster or art cards), but they are visually different to the visuals used for the anime and feel sort of out of place in this set.
The Rising of the Shield Hero – Season 3 will be available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Limited Edition Blu-Ray & DVD from the 12th May 2025 in the UK via Crunchyroll.
