Where else do you hit pause for a long spontaneous info dump?
Impressions:
Why do I feel like this was the episode where they got the word from the producers that they wouldn’t be getting a third season, so wrap up every single plot thread ASAP? Possibly because Yellow appears out absolutely nowhere and decides to spend five straight minutes explaining the whole premise and how he’s behind absolutely everything for no reason, and is just as murder happy as Red, only hides it marginally better. Well, unless they do another timeskip and reboot, which will definitely totally not be how this ends.
Christ, they’re in a magical Takeshi’s Castle parody, fighting against two bland enemies of the week. They have to start the episode with their backstory just to pretend like these are anything besides monsters of the week. “I was bullied once by even bigger bullies, so that’s why murdering everybody is fine.” Yeah, same as every anime villain. Something bad happened to me once, therefore I jumped straight to genocide. So much nuance. What sympathetic characters. Maybe it would’ve worked better had you set it in an episode of Double Dare instead. At least D was being less insufferable this week, though he’s really coming off as throwing a tantrum as a dedicated contrarian when some growth or having something/someone to actually fight for instead is overdue twenty episodes in.
