Did the industry finally get tired of status screens?
Impressions:
It’s two minutes into the episode, and we’ve already stated like three times that the dude is being reincarnated into fantasy land and wants a “slow life.” Of all the obnoxious terms anime gets attached to and won’t stop repeating, that one is really starting to grate on me lately. The rest of the episode is then one long montage, same as every other one of these, whether it’s maximum power level from farming or killing slimes or what. The OP and ED are there to assure the audience that he will indeed be getting a harem of demihuman wife hanger-ons despite the dragon not immediately turning into a bimbo in a bikini.
At least there’s no status screens or popups detailing his numerical prowess. That’s the second highest praise I can give to this episode. The highest praise is the restraint that it took to have a concise title when you absolutely know people were pushing it to be called something like “I Just Wanted a Slow Life In My Reincarnated Second Life, So I Mastered Water Magic In Order To Have the Invincible Slow Life I Always Wanted – The Water Wizard’s Invincible Reincarnation Slow Life Story In Another World.”
