Silent Witch #01 — And Yet, So Much Exposition

Dude monologues at table.

Impressions:

The fourth awkward teenagers have feelings premiere for the day and what do you mean there’s still another one to go!? Good god, Fridays. At least this one began and ended with dragons. As a flashback where she just stood there and the things had happened already. Also yelling. And the narrator repeating the exact same explaination about the premise that she’s a genius who uses magic without chanting spells, in case you forgot it in between the first time you were told and the fifteen minutes of exposition that consumed the middle of the episode, which itself also included explaining that she’s a genius who uses magic without chanting spells. Repetition fills the time after all, and the paragraph.

Same issues as all the others. The protagonist just stood there making mewling noises as everybody else exposited all over the place. I won’t deny there were a couple moments, but they came from the overbearing dude’s harem of all things. Both his maid-familiar and wife were deadpan snarkers not taking his crap and having some humor that isn’t being screamed is a nice respite. Then again, the overexcited fangirl character playing the part of evil stepsister was loud enough for three of them. I guess we weren’t trapped in her head listening to her narrate everything either, but that’s what all the dudes are for, both Mr. Monocle and a random narrator out of nowhere for the start and end. It’s not as… uh, distinct (?) as Watari, nor Call of the Night, and certainly has its share of “girl makes faces,” but that’s every anime, so is that even worth anything? They’re all awkward, and a quarter have cheat powers too. Do something to actually stand out.
