Fermat’s Cuisine #01 — Math Adjunct Bullies

Wait until they discover parmesan cheese.

Impressions:

I enjoy how ridiculously over the top everything in this show is. The multiple instances of spaghetti that makes you see God is pretty normal for anime, but math professor bully squads are a new one. Not just an entire faculty of evil math professors, but they all go and stand behind the same desk when it’s time to torment the protagonist. It’s just so incredibly silly looking. And again, math professors. As everybody know, the most imposing and bitchy of all college faculty, famously obsessed with the results of the mathlympiad, their math reputations, and how they only accept the mathiest of math students.

But we’re back to the sad sack protagonists, who are nonetheless amazing super geniuses which can only be recognized by literally everybody besides their bullies, and all they can do is sit there and take it while everybody tells them they’re actually amazing. His spaghetti napolitan is so transcendent that the other dude is summoned to orgasm from tasting it, and so we enter the multi-episode arc apparently where spaghetti napolitan is the only thing that anybody cares about, and is the thing that someone needs to make for the big math professor dinner. It’s so absurdly contrived. You can’t help but laugh at it. Not with it. At it. Which undercuts all its silly faces and proclamations that it is a very serious drama with serious characters who are having big serious feelings. But at least I’m amused by the gall of one episode. Or just full of waffles and in a good mood.
