And back to the yelling.
Impressions:
There’s only one joke here, what if zombie apocalypse, but cats, which is going to be repeated until you vomit with random cat facts yelled. And I do mean yelled. A narrator appears just to scream fun cat facts, as if there isn’t enough yelling already. And it’s worth pointing out that even the joke of “zombies, but cats” is completely ruined because the cats are all creepy CGI. This is what the uncanny valley is all about. Things that aren’t quite right, that move slightly wrong, that look almost realistic. These things are actually creepy. And it’s made even weirder because this isn’t Earth. It’s an alternate history where the entire world worshipped cats, because it just being cats wouldn’t be enough. Every person in the world needs to be yelling their love for cats with cat billboards everywhere, yet also need to be explaining cat facts to each other.
And then there’s the mess of the story. It seems like we’re jumping right in to the apocalypse already started, but then we rewind to do the origin story of the main character and the start of the apocalypse. Why? So that we could watch them react in horror to someone transforming into a cat multiple times? To go back and reintroduce the cat-cult world a second time? Both times are just being narrated and explained to nobody but the audience. Do they expect that people forgot that ‘joke’ over the commercial break? Ya gotta have more than one gag here and a bunch of cat facts, right? Right!?
