Gamers, am I right?
I am going to cover the second episode of Turkey just to understand what the heck is going on with it, but it airs late, and I’m going to be at a vineyard then, so it definitely won’t be until the mid to late afternoon at the absolute earliest.
Impressions:
Better than last week, in that they didn’t spend half the episode explaining the concept of Pac Man, but the gamer dude’s heel turn was awful. First, it makes no sense after he spent the first two episodes altruistically helping everybody, which also didn’t make sense then, but now it’s just wild inconsistency. Second, it’s so unbelievably petty and stupid. He’s mad about the manga guy using the power of friendship. Always an imbecilic trope, to be sure, but his speech comes straight from Care Bears or My Little Pony despite it trying to be grotesque and serious. That’s really his motivation here? I hate friends! I only play multiplayer games where you torment everybody else and have no teammates, because having friends is for losers! You loser loser, depending on FRIENDS. Especially for a supposed streamer and all the parasocial crap that entails. What is he, a Fortnite or Dead By Daylight only streamer?
There actually wasn’t much of anything going on otherwise. The ostensibly main duo were barely in the episode, and stuff was resolved via the scientist lady popping up out of nowhere with a deus ex machina. At least someone got buzzsawed. That’s… something in this increasingly depressing season. But when you stretch it out with a whole speech about how you’re betraying them, for the stupidest reasons, by the time the splattering finally comes, you’ve already robbed it of all the impact a sudden betrayal would’ve had.
