We can all relate.
As of very early tomorrow morning, until next Friday, I am all the way out of town, multiple timezones away, on what I expect to be a grueling, stressful ‘vacation’ for a family reunion kind of deal. Don’t wait up, and I’m doubtful I’ll want to cover any more of Onmyou Re:Birth. Originals this season have been… rough. Even the carry-overs from last season like To Be Hero.
Impressions:
Back after a week off and it’s… a pretty generic and bland episode. These ghost stories really need just a little more of a twist or surprise to be interesting. Or more of a chase sequence than running down a hallway. Anyway, the monster of the week is a teke teke, basically the Japanese equivalent of Bloody Mary. It’s a girl ghost that gets pissed off when you talk about her. Well, the original is just a girl ghost cut in half by a train, but this iteration tries to murder everybody telling ghost stories about her, which I don’t think helps stop the ghost stories, to be honest.
Funnily, the only major change from the original manga, which the comparisons being what I’m finding the most interesting thing to talk about, is that here it’s a streamer telling ghost stories on the internet. Back in the 90s, it was a random yankee street punk. Both of them end with the dude getting murdered by her, because it’s important to save the local dumb kid through friendship power, but everybody else? Pfft. Ghosts will be ghosts. Let ’em kill whoever they want. I’m sure a random body mysteriously ripped in half won’t start any supernatural rumors or the like.
