The Fainting Hero #12 — Happy Halloween

Holiday season starts earlier every year.

Impressions:

Well, it’s over, I guess, final screen notwithstanding, and not actually sure if another season was actually announced, of if that’s just “and the story continues… in the manga.” And it really says something that half the episode is essentially filler where they fight a squirrel in order to save Halloween. Which just makes me wonder if there was a scheduling snafu. Yeah, yeah. Return to the status quo and whatnot. Ironically, it probably had a more heartfelt ending and character moment of him apologizing and everyone telling him it’s okay to fail and grow.

But rewinding to the terrible Gore arc’s finale, and it’s just the expected friendship power platitudes. Everyone had so much friendship with me that they overcame the dream of… saving waif me? Looking for depth here is like going harpooning in a puddle. Not that I can actually say what a good resolution here might’ve looked like. They painted themselves into a bit of a corner since it was based on a spontaneous bit of angst, and resolved likewise spontaneously.

In any case, it’s over, and I get to buckle down and focus on the next season starting in a week and a half, and hoo boy, it’s gonna be a bad one. Well, unless you love the isekai / kicked out of the party / villainess trend. I remember people writing about how this crap was oversaturated and on the way out five years ago. And yet, here we are. Choking on this crap worse than ever.
