At least it wasn’t a clips episode.
Impressions:
This isn’t really ending, as it’s continuing in January, and this episode was basically just a montage of callbacks to almost all the previous episodes. I think only a couple monsters/entities didn’t show back up. The monster of the week was a jinmensou, or the face-tumor things that embed onto people, which Nube grabbed from some rando and then… sat there and stewed in its tumorness until the kids could show up with the power of callbacks, no matter how nonsensical. Most of the ones they couldn’t work in had to gaze up at the foreshadowing lightning dog or whatever that was meant to be. If anything, I’m surprised they didn’t pull back in some of the things, like the dude’s cyberghost buddy or that one anatomical dummy who they unleashed on the world and then ignored.
And so we put a pin in the summer season and thankfully move on, though with the season preview nearly finished, I don’t know that autumn will be an improvement. There’s one show that starts airing tomorrow, and one of the more promising ones too, despite being an isekai harem, but most aren’t for another week, so the preview will be up this weekend. Can’t say I have much urge to continue on with this when it does return, but we’ll see. The upcoming season has multiple shows about girls getting raped by werewolves on top of just so damn many cheat power reincarnations, and an unusual amount of melodramatic shoujo, but maybe since I already mentioned the werewolf raping, I repeat myself. Perhaps my mind will be fully broken come January.
