Japanese only PC Engine “City Hunter” game finds new life on Modern Consoles Next Year

Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Red Art Games, in partnership with SUNSOFT, have today announced that they will be bringing the Japanese-only PC Engine game City Hunter to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC next year with both physically and digital editions planned.

Remastered from the original 1990 PC Engine game, and based on the first season of the anime series, City Hunter is a side-scrolling shooter featuring an original story with renowned ‘cleaner,’ Ryo Saeba. As part of the games story Ryo will face off against a megacorporation whose conspiracy threatens the world and unravel the truth behind the secrets they hold.

This release of City Hunter will bring the original game to modern platforms, but updated with English, French, Italian, German and Spanish localization as well as TM Network’s iconic “Get Wild” song, which was used as the ending song in the anime, has also been added. Additional gameplay details, and other improvements to the base game, are expected to be revealed in the coming months.

In the meantime City Hunter will be available digitally on 26th February 2026. A physical edition will be released on the 26th March 2026 with Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s Editions being planned. The Standard Edition will be available at retailers, while the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions are expected to be Red Art Games Store exclusives.
