Face Boy and Face Girl #02 — And Also Face Girl

Oh boy, even more yelling.

Impressions:

I can’t say that this is winning me over, but it is staying firmly… okay. The last segment in particular is exactly what I harp on wanting to see from these kinds of little sitcoms. Character wants something. Character gets it, but the results turn out to be different from what they expected. Character reflects and returns to the status quo. His friends especially both calling him out for all his stuff being stupid but still jumping in immediately to help him without pretense or complaint is also a pleasant, yet rare, dynamic in anime. The ending stinger of the new girl out in the rain also felt weirdly cruel at best. What was the joke there? That she’s suffering for nothing?

Speaking of her, unfortunately, the other segments weren’t so good. They were all at least 3-5 minutes, so they went by somewhat fast, but a comedy that barely cracks a smile doesn’t have much shelf life. The new girl it introduced especially is obnoxious at best. She’s just him, except a fangirl instead of antagonistic. But it’s the same gags of misunderstanding her non-expressions and overreacting loudly and verbosely to everything. We already have that joke. It’s practically the only joke. We don’t need it in a second flavor.
