SI-VIS #02 — Sad Boy Sad Dances

Dance dance devolution.

Oops. I completely missed that this was entirely a Sunday morning broadcast now. Or late-ish Saturday US time.

Impressions:

But also, this episode was terrible. Terrible in exactly the way that I expected the first episode to be. In that it wasn’t about fighting evil bugs or aliens at all, and just had some terrible dancing and angsty dudes angsting around. Why is anime grieving always completely shutting down? How about some anger, bargaining, denial? Oh right. That’s emotion and causes character to try to do something instead of mope. Then one of them tells him to stop being so sad and get back to dancing, and he does. Which hasn’t gotten any better either. It’s weird that both this and Wandance seem to be competing for which can have the worst animated dancing sequences this season, and both of them are going about it in completely different ways. But no story progress, no monsters, barely even any lore dumping to be honest. Just that they’re a secret squad that uses music/dancing to fight monsters. Yeah, I got that already. This is not the interesting part of the story. Why are we focusing on it?

And yet, not even the worst thing I watched this morning. That has to go to that Mother is a Spirit etc etc Reincarnation show. They drag the evil lady to court for a divorce where she rants incoherently, so they not only grant the divorce, but humiliate her, and literally brand her with freaking stigmata that prevents her from interacting with men ever again. And everybody clapped. Literally. This is Shield Hero levels of petty misogynistic imbecility for the crime of… cheating on her arranged marriage husband, who hated her anyway. Christ. Still not as repugnant as that gacha thing, but it’s making a genuine effort.
