Alma Wants a Family #04 — Dismembering Children

Not enough dismembering.

Impressions:

The lack of an animation budget is what really held this back. Had either the initial little scrap up or the disarming hack-fight at the end actually been decently animated, I think that would’ve pulled a lot of attention from the unpleasantness that was the other new character of the episode. I don’t have too many issues with the new robot girl, Machina. She’s unhinged and about the right level of schadenfreude where her downfall comes from her own recklessness and chaos while bringing in some actual robot jokes about casually deploying beam cannons or being angrily beheaded.

The stalker lady, on the other hand, mainly just yelled recaps of the premise of the two of them pretending to be a family, or that the protagonist lady is embarrassed about her feelings. Those were already not jokes, and adding a parasocial creep screaming them in indignation was distracting from the more tolerable parts of the episode. It was also deeply weird to end it on saying that she actually does also care about her robo-kid right after attempting to kill everybody by blowing her up. Feel like you should’ve been trying to stop that then, lady.
