Not in the mood for this, anime.
I need a break before I deal with the last two (I think) shows of the day, more shoujo and a reincarnated cheat RPG. So… not a promising crop of shows today anyway. The kind of day that makes me want to swear off the medium entirely, to be honest.
Impressions:
This managed to be even worse than I expected. There’s a large gulf between morally grey, or in this case, completely amoral characters, and a five minute diatribe on why torture and murder is good actually, and everybody should be doing it. This is meant to be funny because they’re acting like it’s a regular job, but I live in a capitalist society. I’m under no illusions about how awful most things are. This would have been awful if it was about turkey ranching, Amazon factories, working in a coal mine, whatever. A full throated endorsement of torture is not comedy, especially given… you know… the state of the current world we live in. Oh, it protests, don’t worry, they’re all criminals, so they deserve it. Trust us.
So that’s the thousand tons of mercury that poison the well of this show’s entire… uh… state of being. That torturing the princess show made torture into a joke, but this is serious about it, as he grins, cackles, and we hear muffled moans and blood splatter, then brags about not just how much he loves his job, but if the world were sane, everybody would be a murderous sadist too because it’s just like any other job. Then some kid makes a sparkly face and everybody says how cute he is when he’s breaking fingers for fun.
