People sure do liquify fast here.
Impressions:
At last, something interesting to talk about, though since I never watched the original, I’m sure a zillion references passed me entirely, and this is bathed in them. At least, I think. It especially likes to have characters sing or hum what I assume are the old themes as it liquifies people wantonly. Oh, that’s the big thing. This is taking much more of the Loser Ranger angle, just with the monsters currently running around also liquifying people on top of the heroes being fake and the true hero also being a lunatic serial killer. It’s pretty far from the original’s G rated goofiness.
That said, the middle dragged a lot, the ‘action’ was mainly just people randomly exploding into censored goo, and the ending twist of the hero guy killing everybody was extremely reminscent of the twist ending to the first episode of Ga-Rei Zero where Yomi showed up and murdered everybody, but executed far worse. That was abrupt, jarring, and horrifying, using silence and even the censoring very well. This was more gratuitous, drawn out, and, honestly, silly, which undermines what should’ve been a brutal and shocking scene.
But still, christ. It’s nice to actually talk about an episode, and not just lament in despair for the entire industry and medium. Please return to making your dumb edgelord shows like this, Cross Ange, Valvrave, Mai HiME, etc, Sunrise. I miss them dearly.
