The Champignon Witch #01 — Spreading Spores

This seems unhealthy.

Double episode broadcast. Also, what the hell, TBS? I swear this wasn’t on your schedule a week ago. One less Friday show then. I might get to the second episode later, but I’m familiar with how this manga goes, and the adaptation isn’t doing anything interesting really.

Impressions:

Ah, pointless ever present narration. How I… never missed you at all because most anime characters provide it anyway instead of just having a disembodied voice explain exactly what is happening. And yet, is randomly selective. That she has a magic hat she feeds books to? Not worth explaining. That she saw two people flirting? Full paragraph. That she sees people. And they’re flirting. Which is something that she sees. The best parts are when it gets outright schizophrenic over how people treat her. She literally leaves a trail of infection wherever she goes and kills people she touches, but but but but they wipe down surfaces after she leaves and wear protective clothing around her. How heartless they are to her. That doesn’t seem heartless. That seems responsible. There’s also the thing where her death touch is specific to only humans. All other biologics are completely fine, aside from spawning fungus constantly.

At least it’s actually fantasy, and not a dumbass RPG with status screens. Still can’t say that this is a particularly engage episodes, especially as we’ve only gotten about halfway through her little accidental soul stealing misadventures with the local hottie. I’ve already glanced through the second episode, and it literally is just that for the next twenty minutes. The inescapable narration explaining every single thing also robs it of any kind of atmosphere or mood. Going for the storybook thing, but to me, that just makes it childish and adds to the writing confusion when it starts rambling about the inquisition going on just off-screen. No, you can’t see it. No it’s not important to this episode, maybe in a month when we introduce the prophecized devil baby and his dead gay dads.
