SCARLET set for 13th March 2026 Cinema Release in the UK

Following on from weeks of speculation Sony Pictures Releasing UK have now confirmed, through updated descriptions on the official trailer on YouTube, that SCARLET, which if of course the latest anime film from Studio Chizu and Mamoru Hosoda, will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on the 13th March 2026.

Originally SCARLET was confirmed to be released on the 6th February 2026, but as the release date grew closer no cinema listings could be found, and then corporate cinema websites, such as Digital Cinema Media, listed the film as being released on the 13th March 2026. Since then speculation has grown on when the film would be released, but now updated listings on the BBFC website (and updates to the official trailer on the Sony Pictures UK YouTube Channel) have confirmed that the film will be released on the 13th March 2026 in dubbed and subbed formats.

SCARLET is the latest anime film from director Mamoru Hosoda, who is known for his works such as BELLE, MIRAI and SUMMER WARS, and features a story that will see a brave princess transcend time and space. Studio Chizu is animating the film, with it being co-financed by Sony Pictures and Nippon TV.

Synopsis: From visionary Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda (MIRAI) comes a powerful, timebending animated adventure. SCARLET, a sword-wielding princess from a war-torn medieval kingdom, sets to avenge her father’s death – but fails, awakening in a mysterious afterlife. There, she meets an idealistic young man from our present day whose compassion challenges her thirst for vengeance. When Scarlet is confronted once more by her father’s killer, she must decide: cling to hatred, or discover a life beyond revenge.

As the release date has now been confirmed we can expect cinema listings to appear at cinema chains in the coming weeks, but for the time being SCARLET is set for a 13th March 2026 cinema release in the UK.
