It’s the news many of us Nintendo Switch 2 owners, and Pokémon fans, have been waiting for as The Pokemon Company, in partnership with Nintendo, have today confirmed that Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will become available in March 2026 for the Nintendo Classics – Nintendo GameCube App which is included as part of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.
Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness was originally released in 2005 for the Nintendo GameCube and is a traditional Pokémon role-playing-game for a home console, unlike others which were mostly spin-offs or party games. Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness takes place in Orre, which is the same setting as the Pokémon Coliseum game that was also released on to the Nintendo GameCube and developed by Genius Sonority.
The availability of this game on the Nintendo Switch 2 is noteworthy, as it was only released on the Nintendo GameCube and has been considered a sought-after game for the platform. Regardless, next month Nintendo Switch 2 owners, and subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, will be able to enjoy it. Myself included.
