KOEI TECMO Games have recently confirmed that the playable demo for FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE, which is a remake of the PlayStation 2 game FATAL FRAME/Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly, is available now for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S & Windows PC with progress transferable to the full game once it releases on 12th March 2026.
In the demo players follow twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they venture into Minakami Villag, where they will begin their journey by exploring an abandoned house. Naturally as part of this introductory phase of the game players will become equipped with the newly upgraded Camera Obscura, and learn how to use it, as they face terrifying encounters with wraiths.
About: This classic Japanese horror title, beloved by fans worldwide, follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they visit a stream, guided by their childhood memories. Whilst Mio reminisces about the past, her older sister Mayu is drawn to a crimson-coloured butterfly, leading her to a mysterious village that seems non-existent.
In this village of never-ending night, the twins are hunted by vengeful spirits as they flee their mysterious ritual. Separated from her sister, Mio attempts to find Mayu and escape, armed only with the Camera Obscura, a device that captures and seals away the impossible. Unbeknownst to her, Mio’s actions will involuntarily reproduce the past and lead her to the deepest reaches of the village, where she will uncover the truth behind the “forbidden ritual that must never be witnessed”.
