I’d rather watch that.
Impressions:
It does give the premise a legitmate try, and of all the first episodes today, this was one of the less tiresome ones, but the humor still grates. The nonsequiturs do work better when they are sufficiently weird, with an alternative art style to really sell it, and it’s rapid fire with the gags, in both screaming overreaction and deadpan rebuttal form. Still, at the end of the day, the gags are all still someone saying something random and then a one-liner announcement that the thing they said is indeed random, and I can’t say that I cracked a smile anywhere throught he episode, which is damning for a comedy.
For as proud it is of its premise of reincarnating as weird things, it’s already airing adjacent to the THIRD season of that godawful vending machine reincarnation thing, so the time spent pretending like reincarnating as anything but an OP whatever for comedic purposes is long since passed. I almost feel like it would work better without either of the characters, and especially not them providing narration over the top of it. Just let the complete craziness run on its own in an ultra fast paced 10 minute short ala Adventure Time or Galaxy Angel’s more bizarre episodes, while almost even more importantly, letting your animators having some freedom to express themselves in different artistic ways.
