Impressions:
The most surprising thing about this episode is that for all the times that anime can’t wait to draw animal anuses, they decided that here and now, after finally getting the scriptwriters on board, they were going to chicken out. Also, that it’s actually pretty animated, and generally expressive. Certainly not the excessive framerate and far too much detail of things like Witch Hat Atelier or Wistoria, but it still looks mountains better than your standard cheat power or harem affair. For a show where the big moment was tonguing a cat’s ass. The promos for this were dire though, so it may be that the budget crash is yet to come.
Not to say that I’d find it recommendable, so much as this episode was tolerable and accomplished the bare minimum of having a self-contained plot that still found time to set up the greater quest and whatnot without spending twenty extra minutes rambling incoherently about the certification process for magic existing. I will always take “things happen” over sitting at tables discussing adherence to bureaucracy. No. She just goes “Some magic is done by carving runes, huh?” “Yes.” And there we have it. We can move on to shooting fireballs at demon dogs. And the feline analingus. Very reminiscent of a hojillion magical girl things of 20 years ago where the protagonist was the stuffed animal. Which they then had sex with in the originating VN. Ah, nostalgia. We gave up stuffed animal fetishization and got cheat power reincarnation in return. …Great.
