Random dying dog out of nowhere.
Impressions:
All these recent episodes feel like they’ve really lost the grotesquery of the first few that really helped the horror vibe. The story of the week being so toothless also isn’t helping. He comes across a zashiki warashi and… that’s it, really. She just follows him around a bit, they learn that she’s the spirit of some kid who died of sickness half a century ago, and… that’s it. Where’s the conflict? Where’s the suspense? Where’s the weird body horror? We started with an angry fox dude wanting to rip bones out of children. Why is every episode now barely on the level of Veggie Tales?
I was waiting for the reveal that this was a monkey’s paw kind of situation where she was siphoning good fortune from others, or was still carrying a plague, or that her helping people was indeed causing problems in some way as was explicitly stated. But none of that ever happened. She’s just a random do-gooder, doing good, so they throw a birthday party for her, and everybody goes on with their lives. Or deaths in the case of the ancient grandma who he ripped the soul out of only to cram it right back in. Not sure that was medically wise.
