A Wild Last Boss Appeared! #01 — First, Let’s Check My Status Screen

Please stop.

Impressions:

And still another cheat power RPG reincarnation piece of garbage. But hey, despite having the literal exact same premise as Overlord, and Demon Lord, Retry, and Mynoghra, and… you get the point, this one’s first episode was only 80% as bad as Overlord’s first episode was, something that has carved itself deep into my memory just like Fate/Zero’s first episode, for how hyped up it was, and how it was 20 straight minutes of a dude sitting stock still in a chair. Why only 80%? In this case, he gets up and walks around a bit while listening to the exposition about how he’s in an RPG world and there are RPG mechanics in an RPG setting. Big difference here? His avatar is a female instead of a skeleton. Another blow in the culture war against the undead.

There’s no redeeming features here. Not the nonexistent story, with nothing happening except what wely’ve already seen a hundred million times before this year alone. Not the characters, of which there are a whopping two, one to deliver unneeded exposition, one to listen to it. There is no chemistry. No humor. There’s barely even interactions between them. Certainly not the animation, which has as much effort put into it as the script. How have we not reached oversaturation on these things? I legitimately miss when every third show was about how the overlord was a hot horny babe. Even that had some variety, and wasn’t stuck spending entire episodes explaining how RPGs have mechanics.
