My Friend’s Little Sister Torments Only Me #01 — Referential

I’d rather watch ten of these to never see another cheat power RPG.

Impressions:

I know it hasn’t been that long, but it does feel like years since we had one of these awful light novels with an internally narrating protagonist rambling incoherently internally about psych 101. Those things have definitely fallen out of fashion from the heyday of stuff like Haganai or Seizon. It falls pretty far on the stupid/trashy fanservice end of the spectrum, with the lead girl’s ‘tormenting’ him schtick being hanging out in his room, flashing her cleavage at him, rub herself all over him, and tell him that he should totally wreck her girl parts with his meat drill. I’m only barely exaggerating. The leap of logic here that she’s just teasing him easily clears three buses and an entire pool of sharks.

But she bows out of the episode for it to try to pretend like there’s some kind of plot and introduce the second member of the harem for him to walk in on peeing, as harems are want to do. He has to pretend to be her boyfriend. Hilarity. On both the parts. All the while, he laments how he’s being forced to get rubbed on by all these hot girls throwing themselves at him. The best part of the episode is absolutely the OP, just because it’s a mad spam of all manner of anime and game references. There are some deep-ass cuts I could recognize too, as well as things like that damn watermelon game that indicate at least someone on staff has used the internet in the last four years. There’s some amusement to be had trying to ID them all. The actual episode though? Insufferable dude. I don’t hate the first girl, as she’s a troll tormenting someone high off their own self-righteousness, which I can appreciate, but it is just trashy fanservice, so there’s zero chemistry, and the entire thing only gets worse when she’s not pushed out to focus on what can only laughably be called its plot.
