May I Ask One Last Thing #02 — Straddling the Naked Dog Boy

So much for sticking it to the nobility.

Impressions:

The relentless march of time has finally forced my hand into actually writing something about this episode before the third episode airs in like 10 hours. It took so long not just due to my vacation distracting me, but because this episode was terrible. The slight saving grace of the first was her beating up a bunch of pompous asses. It’s not quite the same dynamic when you follow it up with “and everybody clapped, including a second set of only-slightly-less-pompous asses, who she’s now going to happily work for.” And even less so when she’s done menacing pompous asses and 15 minutes into the episode has only menaced one undercover douche, and one naked slave were-boy because the episode has become weighed down with a mountain of exposition crushing out all characters and anything resembling a story ‘world building.’ It’s halfway through the episode and we’re still in a meeting listening to a summary of the local political situation. Can we get a move on?

But at the same time, having watched the first episode of almost every show airing this season, any initial episodes having anything at all salvagable about them is something of a rarity. So I’m in either the bargaining or denial phase, hoping that a fun antagonist or the story actually going somewhere might fix things, even though I already know that neither of those things will happen. They literally just walk up to some brigands and declare that it’s punching time. Yes, very undercover. Much spycraft. You’re making Spy Classroom look like honest to god James Bond here.
