When your character designs are clearly not a mess.
Impressions:
Another mostly inoffensive but not actually particularly funny comedy. I find it slightly more tolerable than Mechanical Marie, but that may just be that it’s on its second episode and the joke has been entirely run into the ground just yet. It’s only 80% of the way there. This does also distinguish itself from that by the MC being generally affable and underreacting rather than a privileged horse’s ass, but at the end of it, is still running off the same punchline of the girl being awkward and making a face about it. The whole sucking thing is less fetishized than usual for vampire things, and is especially kind of weird with his declarations that he’s turned into her mother. It’s… certainly different from the usual blood-sucking orgasms, but there isn’t much of a joke there.
I guess there’s the visual style too. At least it’s fairly distinct, though again, I don’t know that the gag there actually works, particularly with protagonist missing most of his face much of the time. There are some other minor visual flourishes that are better, like her ponytail flapping as she tries to fly, but it’s mostly just the usual reaction faces on pastel Powerpoint backgrounds. There’s also not much of a hook to the premise, as picky vampires is nearly 100% of them in anime. Even the light romcom about them sucking at sucking already had Karin, Moon Phase, and god only knows what else from the magical girlfriend era, so I don’t think punting on any story or character development to focus on the (non) comedy is a good plan either.
