“What Will You Carry Beyond Journey’s End?” That is the question being asked on the front cover of this Limited Edition Blu-Ray release of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Season 1 Part 2, and, courtesy of Crunchyroll (UK), we can explore what is inside. As a reminder Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Season 1 Part 2 was released earlier this week in the UK (on the 17th November 2025) and is available as a Blu-Ray and Limited Edition Blu-Ray.
First of all Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Season 1 Part 2 contains Episodes 17 – 28 of of the anime, which is animated by Madhouse and covers the First Class Mage Exam Arc which is a pivotal moment within the series, across 2 Blu-Ray Discs in both English and Japanese (with English subtitles).
Synopsis: Frieren and Fern take a magic exam in order to enter the Northern Plateau. Not only is the test notorious for killing more people than it passes, it requires the one thing that can defeat even the most powerful elf: teamwork. May the era of humans begin.
The episodes within this set primarily focus on the First Class Mage Exam Arc, where Frieren and Fern undergo the exam in order to receive certification so that they can progress forward on their journey. I consider it to be a pivotal moment within the first season as it sees our main cast of characters grow, new characters introduced, and the scope of the world increased. There are also some incredible scenes that further explore Frieren’s past and battles of wit between mages looking to secure their future as a mage. It’s all very interesting, and exciting, from the moment you press play.
This same intrigue can also be attributed to this Limited Edition release of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Season 1 Part 2 due to the way that it comes packaged and presented. On the surface this Limited Edition set is pretty standard for a Crunchyroll related Limited Edition release, as it features similar content as other sets. But, it is how they are presented to you that makes them interesting and exciting.

Starting with the Blu-Ray Set, which will come inside (what I think is) a Grimoire designed art box, you’ll notice that it is same as the standard edition set, so those buying the Limited Edition release won’t be missing out on any art work that is on the Standard Edition or vice vera (unlike the TRIGUN STAMPEDE Limited Edition which used different artwork for different editions). This carded sleeve also has a rainbow holographic effect which shines and reflect in the sunlight, but I do think that it disrupts the visual impact of the art work on the front cover.
The art work on the front cover of this carded sleeve is also different to that of the front cover of the inlay sleeve, with the inlay sleeve front cover using the key visual from the First Class Mage Exam Arc. The remaining artwork is exactly the same between the carded sleeve and inlay sleeve. It’s a subtle difference, but it is something that Crunchyroll have been doing with some of their releases. More artwork is better after all.
The Blu-Ray discs themselves meanwhile feature the same style and presentation of the previous part. This first part had Frieren on both discs, and for this second part we have art work of Himmel being is used. Personally I would have preferred artwork of Frieren, Fern, Stark, and Himmel being used on each of the four discs, to give it some variety, but I guess this is fine as well as they are the two main characters.
Interestingly the discs in this second part are labelled Disc 3 and Disc 4, which makes sense as it would give the impression of a complete season when placed inside the art box along with Part 1 and the same discs could be reprinted for the complete season collection (if one does happen). However, when you play the discs in your they are listed as Disc 1 and Disc 2 on the main menu, so this illusion becomes relatively pointless.
Going Beyond the Anime:
Once again Crunchyroll continues its trend of “going beyond the anime” to include an art book, and various other physical collectibles, with its Limited Edition releases, and the same can be said for this set. As per usual the art book features a combination of art work, visuals, animation checks, and cast interviews of which is presented in a hard back book that is designed like a Grimoire. The size of the art book is slightly smaller than A4, but it is much more bigger than your traditional art book and features over 200-pages worth of content. The quality of the art book is superb and feels like a premium quality product.
Inside you’ll find visuals for characters, weapons, props, environments, animation storyboards, and other visuals from the entirety of Season 1, with most pieces of art work also being accompanied with additional information to provide added insight. The cast interviews meanwhile, which can be found in the later half of the book, provide us with “Questions and Answers” segments with staff that worked on the series, such as the Japanese voice actors, all of which have accompanying screenshots. It is a comprehensive book filled with behind-the-scenes content and feels like something you’d purchase separately rather than have it included inside a Limited Edition set.
Of course there is more to explore in this Limited Edition than just the (art) book, as inside this set you’ll also find seven sticker sheets, seven shikishi boards, three art cards, an acrylic standee, and a luggage tag. At first glance the art cards, luggage tag and sticker sheets might not seem like much, but they all serve a purpose. The Art Cards included are a continuation of the art cards included with Part 1 (if purchased brand new) and offer visuals of Frieren in her three main groups. These groups can be considered her current party, her previous party, and her mentor. The luggage tag on the other hand is designed after the Blue Moon Flower in the series and is a nice novelty item to have so that it can be used to identify your luggage if you decide to use it.
The sticker sheets meanwhile do feel like a weak item to have in a Limited Edition, but again these do serve a purpose. Seven sticker sheets are included with each sheet focusing on a different character from Friren’s current (and past) party. Not only does each sticker sheet provide information about the characters, but they also offer different stickers depicting the character in different animation styles as each character has a standard, chibi, and anime screenshot visual that can be used. The logo on each sticker sheet can also be peeled and used as well.
We then have the Acrylic Standee and seven shikishi boards, which again are an unusual (but not uncommon) addition to a Limited Edition Blu-Ray set. Acrylic Standees are a common piece of merchandise in the anime / manga world, and they usually priced at around £20 depending on the size. The acrylic standee included in this set is of Frieren being caught by a Mimic, which is not only hilarious but it is a wonderful art piece to have included, and is of decent size. Just remember to remove the plastic on the arcylic before assembling, otherwise it will look blurred.
The Shikishi boards meanwhile are another piece of merchandise that are sold in Japan, but these designs are solely for this Limited Edition set. I have to admit when I first opened the Limited Edition set and saw the size of them I was disappointed, as usually they are a lot bigger. That being said, the quality of them is clearly better than traditional art cards. Each shikishi is a thick board and has gold edges with the artwork being the focal point. The Artwork also differs to that used in the anime, so perhaps it is drawn by the manga artist, but they all look really nice. In Japan shikishi boards are usually signed by the voice actors at events, so the same could be done with these boards as well (as there is enough room for autographs on them).
In writing this Limited Edition release of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Season 1 Part 2 seems pretty standard, and rather basic, however once you actually hold it you soon realize that that is not the case. I see this Limited Edition set of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Season 1 Part 2 a celebration of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and brings moments of the series to life through the physical products that are included within.
Whether it be the shikishi boards, which are normally used in Japan for voice actors to sign, the acrylic standee, to have something to display on your shelf, or the luggage suitcase box, which Frieren uses in the series, everything carefully represents the series in some shape or form. That’s even before we consider the Art Book, or even the Blu-Ray Set itself. In my mind the Art Book and novelty packaging draws me in, but it is actually the whole package that makes you want to stay. This Limited Edition, and it’s hefty price-tag, are purely for fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, but it’s a package worth owning if you really like the series.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Season 1 Part 2 is now available on Blu-Ray and Limited Edition Blu-Ray in the UK from Crunchyroll.
