Especially when you don’t know what it is.
Impressions:
Honestly, a whole episode about hypnosis and various pseudo sciences feels like it would’ve been a better approach. Things started out poorly with the rando friend from like two months ago screaming out Rikka’s entire backstory on the side of the road. Show don’t tell is pithy, but it’s relevant, and especially the fully formalized version of show EMOTION, tell INFORMATION. Convey what’s important succinctly, evoke emotion through storytelling and presentation. Not yell backstory and announce feelings.
The episode didn’t improve from there. I know you’re anxious and insecure, but what if you weren’t? Oh, okay, thanks. That fixed it. How about another long expositional dump that could mean either the friend or Yamabuki? Cause we don’t get enough of that either. He solved everything by… existing, I guess. Made even worse by some really awful production in the busking spot. A bustling area, completely empty for a hundred meters in every direction, except for three people standing stock still with two to three more materializing out of the ether to show a crowd. Do… Do you even understand how busking works? Or what crowds are?
