Heck Toucan Nube #26 — Extra Fridgey

We really needed a seven minute conversation hanging out of an oni’s chest, huh?

Impressions:

What a pointless ending. The ghost of his dead teacher comes back to re-sacrifice herself one extra time, with yet another speech about how he’s gonna be super great. And then her ghost shows up to do it all over again. And that’s it. That’s literally it. Then he wakes up and is fine. Nobody needed to do anything. Our fieldtrip into his flashback was just so the peanut gallery could shout his name and have their own flashbacks. Within the flashback. Could we not at least have had them do literally anything? Have some point to any of this? That’s really what’s sticking in my craw. What was the point here? Had everybody just said, “Whoa, let’s sleep on it and see if he feels better in the morning,” it all would’ve worked out completely fine.

And this is our finale for the show. Unless there’s another season. I think I may be done for good this time though. This season was rough. Every single month, we had to have a flashback episode about some sad girl who heroically sacrificed herself for him. Or travel to a parallel dimension where he heroically sacrifices himself. But it was all foregone conclusions or meaningless. Backstory retconned in because things weren’t feeling dramatic enough, despite the here and now containing dismemberment demons and barbecuing bank robbers on the front step. Get your priorities in order, guys. Traumatize more children. Steal more skulls.
