“Angel’s Egg” and “ChaO” to Receive a UK Cinema Release

As part of a recent cinema focused newswire post Anime Limited, otherwise known as All The Anime, have revealed that both Angel’s Egg and Cha0 will receive a cinema release in the UK, with both films planned to be screened later this year. Angel’s Egg will also receive a 4K UHD Blu-Ray release in the near future.

The newswire post also reminded us of the cinematic re-release of AKIRA, which is available in cinemas from 17th April 2026 in both dubbed and subbed format with tickets available to book online now, as well as Grave of the Fireflies and GODZILLA MINUS ZERO. The latter films have yet to have screening details, but Grave of the Fireflies will be shown at the Prince Charles Cinema in London as part of the Bleak Week event at the cinema.

Angel’s Egg: In an underwater city, a young girl takes care of a large egg she holds carefully in her arms. A boy with a gun arrives in search of a bird he saw in his dream. At first, it seems as if feelings of sympathy are developing between the two.

The film is a creative collaboration between acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), who wrote and directed the feature, and revered artist Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D). The film beautifully intertwines Oshii’s thematic reflections on philosophy and theolog with Amano’s distinctive ink painting style, culminating in an arrestingly beautiful hand-drawn allegorical fantasy.

Cha0: In a fantastical future, humans and mermaids share a troubled coexistence. Stephan, an anxious employee at a shipbuilding company, has big ideas to save the sea. But his life explodes into ecstatic chaos when bubbly mermaid princess Chao proposes marriage out of the blue. Between shopping sprees, giant robots, and actual fireworks, the unlikely pair flounder through their new romance and unlock their true feelings.

Crafted over 7 years by the acclaimed STUDIO4°C and veteran animator Yasuhiro Aoki, ChaO is an inventive and genre-defying delight bursting with color and character. Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, ChaO’s singular narrative is an ode to boundless love.

Angel’s Egg and Cha0 have previously received a limited cinema screeings across the UK as part of Scotland Loves Anime film festival, but this time they will receive wider showings across the UK at participating cinema chains. For the time being we will just have to wait for exact details, but it’s always nice to see anime, both old and new, on the big screen.
