Draw This, Then Die #01 — Even More Child Endangerment

You ran away to Comitia? That seems… dangerous.

Impressions:

It’s decently animated at least, but it’s very superficial. No deep dive into the medium here like GA Art Club, which I will probably forever tiresomely repeat as a gold standard of hobby shows. Just the existence of manga is life changing. How? It gave her an imaginary friend that tells her to “do your best!” And… that’s it. She claims to have trouble making friends, and demonstrates this with a flashback where she immediately makes friends with some strangers. Who then I guess completely evaporated.

There’s tons of these inconsistencies throughout. Likewise, it claims that this manga she’s a fan of is ultra rare, super expensive, but also, nobody’s interested in buying new editions of it. Or she announces that the author’s Twitter is abandoned… except for the post announcing her comeback. Or she knows about social media and the internet in general, but the concept that people draw manga, doujins if you want to get technical, blows her tiny mind. I feel like I’m being gaslit here. Or maybe the writing is just bad because it’s only really concerned with her tearfully declaring manga is great and that she’s going to do her best, with an occasional “EHHHHHHHH!?” sprinkled in, even when they can’t think of anything to overreact to, which is why it ends up being nonsensical things like “humans draw manga at convention for amateur manga.”
