Were there more closeups of ears this week, or was it just me?
Impressions:
Can’t say I’m too enthralled with this one either. Lara’s a bit too… dumb, and worse, passive. She just bawls and whimpers about finding her prince, this time to some random childhood friends who she injects herself into, except it’s only one of them. I’m insecure because I haven’t told him my feelings. Well, what if you did? Wow. Thanks, that solved everything and now I can look forward to a brighter tomorrow. I was more distracted by the ears all episode. Maybe I just didn’t notice, or maybe there were more closeups of Lara’s fish-ears and everyone else’s human ears this week. People really aren’t noticing this? The stitched tongue, sure. I can see not looking at/focusing on a tongue, and only in anime is it even really visible. But the ears?
In any case, the dumbest part of the episode wasn’t even that banal sidestory. It was the end of it when the girl goes “Okay, but what are you and Mari? What is your relationship exactly? Friends, or……….?” And the two of them stare at each other for like ten straight seconds while dramatic meaning hangs heavily in the air. It then follows this up with her erstwhile sister throwing a tantrum about how she could explain stuff, but not right now, because it’s more dramatic this way. This is not the cliffhanger tease that you think it is.
