Impressions:
Eight episodes in to the season, we get to the new girl and member of the harem, which is a… somewhat upsetting thing to say about characters who are supposedly like 10 years old, but boy, are they leaning into that whole schtick this episode. And given the early Ayako episode, I guess this whole season. That and all the historical asides. Hope you’re ready to learn about the basara fashion history of the samurai era. Which is basically just somewhere between peacocking and non-conformism. Wearing colorful crap and standing out to be not like the fuddy duddies. At least we somehow avoided learning the entire ruleset to sugoroku, which is essentially just Japanese backgammon, though I feel like they probably should’ve had more emphasis on Shizuku just straight up cheating rather than a million reaction faces to making out. Just shows where the priorities are.
Speaking of which, the new girl is pretty much just punk/gyaru Shizuku. Another snarky girl with divine powers who cheats at everything and knows everything. Tsundere version, as if being blonde and twintailed didn’t make that obvious enough. Not really sure what she adds here other than, you know, being blonde and twintailed. Was that a hole in the cast that needed filling? Maybe I’m just trying not to think about the ending scene. Or the long exhibitionist child makeout session. Not that it was uncomfortably saucy. Just thinking back to the first season and especially the very strong ending of multiple characters all having their showdowns. While this season has… child backgammon tonsil jockey.
