Zàijiàn, Lara #11 — Little Mermaid 2: Princesspalooza

This is so dumb.

Impressions:

Yay! A whole flashback episode! Always a delight and never terrible. This one blew its load extra early when it spat out of nowhere that the entire mermaid empire cannot exist unless powered by a princess’s true love. And wouldn’t ya know it, but there are two princesses who were the proto Little Mermaids, because Lara is I guess just the sequel. Also, if literally any princess will do, then why was none of the others ever falling in love not something that would save the kingdom? Why is Lara the only princess that matters?

Anyway, they dreamed of running away, but ‘luckily’, one fell in love. And the other did the Little Mermaid thing, except ended up murdering and stealing his beau’s soul, which the peasantry didn’t take kindly to. So, you know, this whole thing about humans ‘unjustly’ killing that one princess? A little regicide is a hell of a thing to gloss over. But Lara’s extra super special because she DIDN’T murder the first teenage boy she went on a date on for being spooked when she suddenly convulsed and turned into half a tuna. Boy, the standards for dating in anime really are something.
