The Loose Sam #22 — Making Faces

Can’t we at least stab a kid?

Yes, I’m aware that at least one fall show has already aired a couple episodes early. It’s… another damn Solo Leveling knockoff, so I’m already tired of it having watched all of five minutes. I’ll get to it probably Sunday. Season preview is well under way, and remember when they said cheat power isekai was on the way out? The anime industry sure doesn’t think so. It’s… going to be a rough one.

Impressions:

This seemed a bit anti-climactic, though I guess there’s still two episodes left. At the same time, the field trip arc seems… pretty over. They were clearly going for a “For Bison, it was Tuesday” thing with Takauji, but I don’t think they achieved the level of existential terror or him being a cold psychopath. If anything, him not remembering Tokiyuki and immediately jumping straight to mercy and clemency because he’s a kid pushes the opposite. And the rest? Well, it failed, for reasons off-screen. And so we’re leaving. Uh… okay.

Let’s also remember that the family that Tokiyuki wants to avenge was deeply corrupt and the default state of being for every single person in feudal Japan/this show is constant betrayal, power struggles, and razing the countryside. Simply turning into a metaphorical demon isn’t far beyond all the characters who are half monsters with talking ears to start with. Not that I want torture porn, but bare minimum, he probably should’ve at least dislocated a few kids’ limbs to punctuate sentences instead of making demon faces.
