Could you put more words on the screen? I can still see part of the ground.
This, bizarrely renamed “Temppal – The Power of Items” for Japan, had an early Korean webcast of the first two episodes a week and a half ago, hence the hardcoded Korean subtitles despite it being in Japanese. Its actual broadcast begins on Sunday, the 27th. Full season rundown should be up on Friday after Elusive Sam. There’s nearly 20 shows involving explicitly video game other-worlds. It’s going to be… difficult.

And as you might have guessed from the Korean source and copious number of status screen popups, it is Yet Another One of These. Don’t worry. There aren’t just status screens. There’s also a disembodied NPC that announces things. And as I look at the Japanese text overlaid with Korean text, I can’t help but appreciate that for regular subtitle viewers, this is what’s completely normal; two layers of walls of text overlaid on each other, with a third text box for the subtitles, filling the entire screen with… this. And that these things have such a depressingly large number of fans who can’t get enough of these literal walls of text.
At least it’s trying to be the more comical bend rather than pure edgelord revenge fantasy like your Solo Levelings or Tomb Raider Kings. There’s more emphasis on ‘funny’ overreaction faces and yelling than there is on torture porn. Not that there isn’t torture porn, just everybody poofs when cut in half. Which doesn’t stop them from screaming at the top of their lungs about how serious things are, or drooling as the camera lingers on cleavage. Not the worst animated either, which doesn’t seem like a high bar considering how frequently the screen is just a literal wall of text, but most of these abominations barely manage to be above slideshows, and it’s at least a tier above that.
Still the same schtick. Random contrivance makes him the weakest with level -1, but also the power to make equipment that has maximum stats. Him and ten thousand other yelly idiots. I assume that they needed this to be a two episode premiere because he doesn’t start making god equipment until the second one, which I only glanced at because frankly, I’ve been yelled at by this show enough for one morning.
