I don’t believe this is the end of Sailor Moon but certainly what a finish for now!!
There’s Always Sadness In Our Lives, It’s that sadness that keeps us going
Usagi Tsukino
Sailor Moon has been a eternal timeless anime and will continue on forever as this. I put it off for so long to watch the final two movies apart of this franchise but November finally did it, Oh boy was it emotionally taxing. As from when Sailor Moon Crystal came out in 2015 remaining truthful to the manga, every new arc that has come out has gotten darker. I don’t know if anyone noticed haha but Sailor Moon Cosmos Final Part 1 and 2 took the dagger all the way into the heart for this one and unveiled home truths we all know about life yet shown through a deeper sense. Personally I don’t think the movie comprehended for itself what a impact was being made.
We Are Our Own Catalyst
Main character Usagi portrayed as a scaredy cat, coward towards anything serious unless it’s something she wants but can be at the same time a brave klutz and someone full of boundless love that sees no end in sight towards the things most dear to her. Usagi is pushed to her true limit during this arc of cosmos and the movie didn’t skip out on any emotional factor especially when it came to Usagi facing her greatest foe. I haven’t read the final part of Sailor Moon manga so I was going in blind here and nothing clicked at all for me until the ending of what truly everything meant. Glamoured despair and desperation is what awaits in the first movie as Usagi deals with Sailor Galaxia wiping every star seed she can and her friends disappearing right before her eyes. Sailor Galaxia presents creates a despairing atmosphere unlike foes before and maybe that is because she is of the former (That was a hint there if you have seen the movie you will get it) and how it feels easier to give into misery. But also harder to keep going with things.
Usagi has many weakening moments for herself, she has before but in this arc it wanted to rip each part of her in small increments. Your heart aches, champion of justice and that spark she always has does not appear right away. Traumatic almost loss of her beloved friends this time tips her over the threshold and it was a Usagi I hadn’t seen before. I knew that it was going to take more than her usual spark to pick herself back up, a different kind of will for her rise above. That is what I believe when we are thrown our own catalyst in life it takes something incredible inside of us to go above what is crushing us and this context through Usagi’s own catalyst scenario wrote home for me. One of the most impactful moments for me watching this show.
Cosmos Of Life
Not all was about Catalysts as the other beautiful part about this arc was learning the full truth of things and Usagi’s true purpose. Usagi had her grievances, doubt and own worth on the line through the second movie, fighting her own inner conflict of what was the right path forward from learning the truth. This added for me a whole new layer to Usagi’s character, she always has had inability to find resilient even when it wasn’t there but this time was the toughest of them all for our sailor guardian. It’s true for without those closest to her she wouldn’t be who she is but these events made her see passed that, so reliant of those around her it was time for her to let go of that crutch. No-one can always go on and do things alone or do life alone but it is important to realise our own power for ourselves.
I love that Usagi loves life it’s one of the reasons she is a favourite second to Jupiter. Usagi is a imperfect person full of redeeming imperfections that fans love about her character and it is the imperfections that give her life honestly. How she was able to look the imperfections in front of her and bow herself forward to do what she thought was the right way forward. That’s how we make decisions about life, no clue if its the truly right one, you have to take that leap of faith. Making decisions is like a endless cosmos I feel and Usagi has to save literally the cosmos, that’s what life feels like at times. You’re trying with everything to save it, Usagi accepted she couldn’t save all and took the imperfections of her scenario in front of her, giving us the most adorable Usagi yet. In that moment nothing was going to touch her power coming from sheer rock bottom and displaying what she did made me love her character more.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos shows us a Sailor Moon we haven’t seen before and if you are a eternal fan of this series, haven’t seen it you need to watch it! It’s a must not a i’ll do later. Let’s just add here also the animation was art, impeccable art throughout so many scenes I just want to have on my wall people!!
(It has felt nice to write something meaningful because I had no idea what to write about after being away from this blog a lot in 2024)
See you next post!
